This role is crucial for maintaining the safety, legality, and efficiency of our trucking operations.

Compliance Officer:

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT regulations, hours of service (HOS) rules, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
  • Keep the company informed about changes in laws and regulations that impact the trucking industry and implement necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.

Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures to ensure company-wide adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and update compliance programs regularly to reflect current laws, regulations, and industry best practices.

Audit and Inspection Management:

  • Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare for and manage external audits or inspections by regulatory bodies, ensuring all necessary documentation is available and accurate.
  • Address and resolve any compliance issues identified during audits or inspections.

Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees and drivers on compliance-related topics, including safety procedures, HOS regulations, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Ensure all employees are aware of and understand the importance of compliance in their daily operations.

Incident Reporting and Investigation:

  • Manage and oversee the reporting of incidents, accidents, or violations to the appropriate regulatory authorities.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into compliance breaches or safety incidents, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to compliance, including driver qualifications, vehicle maintenance logs, HOS records, and incident reports.
  • Ensure all documentation is stored securely and is easily accessible for audits or inspections.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as safety and operations, to ensure a comprehensive approach to risk management and compliance.

Liaison with Regulatory Agencies:

  • Act as the primary point of contact between Worthey Trucking and regulatory agencies, including the DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Respond to inquiries and provide required reports and documentation to regulatory bodies in a timely manner.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Regularly review and assess the effectiveness of the compliance program, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure Worthey Trucking remains a leader in compliance and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, legal studies, or a related field; additional certifications in compliance or safety management are a plus.
  • Previous experience in a compliance role, preferably within the trucking or logistics industry.
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations, HOS rules, and other relevant federal and state regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to train and educate others on compliance matters.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and compliance management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to different company locations for audits and inspections as needed.
  • Capability to work in an office environment and, occasionally, in the field to assess compliance.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
