Dispatcher:

Job Details:

Worthey Trucking is looking for an organized and efficient Dispatcher to join our team. The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the movement of trucks, drivers, and freight to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods. This role involves scheduling, route planning, communication with drivers and customers, and problem-solving to handle any issues that arise during transit. The ideal candidate has strong multitasking abilities, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of logistics.

Dispatcher:

Key Responsibilities:

Route Planning and Scheduling:

  • Develop and optimize daily, weekly, and monthly dispatch schedules for drivers, ensuring the efficient use of resources and timely delivery of goods.
  • Plan and assign routes to drivers, taking into account factors such as delivery deadlines, traffic conditions, weather, and driver availability.
  • Monitor and adjust routes as necessary to accommodate changes in schedules, customer requests, or unforeseen issues.

Driver Communication and Support:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, providing instructions, addressing concerns, and resolving any issues that arise on the road.
  • Communicate with drivers to ensure they have all necessary information regarding their routes, loads, and customer expectations.
  • Track the location and progress of drivers throughout their shifts using GPS and other tracking tools, ensuring they stay on schedule.

Customer Service:

  • Liaise with customers to provide updates on delivery status, answer questions, and resolve any issues related to shipping and delivery.
  • Coordinate with the logistics and customer service teams to ensure customer satisfaction and handle any special delivery requests or requirements.

Load Management:

  • Coordinate the loading and unloading of freight, ensuring that trucks are loaded efficiently and within legal weight limits.
  • Work with warehouse staff to manage load assignments and ensure that shipments are prepared for timely dispatch.

Problem Solving and Issue Resolution:

  • Handle emergencies, such as vehicle breakdowns or accidents, by arranging for repairs, towing, or alternative transportation as needed.
  • Manage unexpected delays or route changes by reassigning drivers, adjusting schedules, and communicating with customers and drivers to minimize disruptions.
  • Address any compliance issues that arise, ensuring that all operations adhere to DOT regulations and company policies.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of driver assignments, routes, delivery times, and any incidents that occur during transit.
  • Prepare and submit reports on dispatch operations, including metrics related to on-time delivery, driver performance, and customer satisfaction.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all drivers adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements, including hours of service (HOS) regulations.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with company policies regarding vehicle maintenance, driver behavior, and load security.

Collaboration with Other Departments:

  • Work closely with the operations, logistics, and customer service teams to align dispatch operations with overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate with the compliance officer to ensure all dispatch activities are compliant with legal and regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in logistics, transportation, or related fields are a plus.
  • Previous experience in dispatching, logistics, or a similar role within the trucking industry.
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations, HOS rules, and other relevant trucking industry standards.
  • Proficiency with dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and other logistics tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and internal teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple drivers and routes simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an office setting with extensive use of a computer and phone.
  • Occasionally visit warehouses or loading docks to oversee dispatch operations.
