Worthey Trucking is seeking a dedicated Special Services Officer to oversee and manage specialized transportation and logistics services. This role involves handling unique, high-priority, or sensitive shipments that require special attention, such as hazardous materials, oversized loads, or time-critical deliveries. The Special Services Officer will coordinate with various departments to ensure that these shipments are managed with the utmost care and efficiency. The ideal candidate has a strong background in logistics, excellent problem-solving skills, and a keen understanding of regulatory requirements.

Special Services:

Key Responsibilities:

Specialized Load Management:

Coordinate the planning, routing, and execution of specialized shipments, including hazardous materials, oversized loads, and expedited deliveries.
Ensure that all special services shipments are handled according to customer specifications and within regulatory guidelines.
Monitor the progress of special shipments, providing real-time updates to customers and addressing any issues that arise during transit.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure all special services operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly those related to the transportation of hazardous materials and oversized loads.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations and best practices, including those from the Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other relevant authorities.
Prepare and submit required documentation and reports to regulatory bodies as needed.

Risk Management and Safety:

Assess and mitigate risks associated with the transportation of sensitive or high-risk cargo, implementing safety protocols and procedures to protect the company, drivers, and the public.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of vehicles and equipment used in special services operations.
Train drivers and staff on the proper handling and transportation of special cargo, ensuring adherence to safety standards and procedures.

Customer Coordination and Communication:

Serve as the primary point of contact for customers utilizing special services, ensuring that their needs are met and expectations exceeded.
Provide detailed and accurate information to customers about the status of their shipments, including any delays or issues.
Work closely with the sales and customer service teams to develop customized logistics solutions for clients with unique transportation requirements.

Equipment and Resource Management:

Oversee the allocation and maintenance of specialized equipment, such as trailers for oversized loads, tanker trucks for hazardous materials, and refrigerated units for temperature-sensitive cargo.
Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure all equipment is in optimal condition and meets regulatory standards.
Manage resources efficiently, including driver assignments and vehicle utilization, to ensure the timely and safe delivery of special services shipments.

Problem Solving and Issue Resolution:

Handle emergencies or unexpected challenges during special services operations, such as equipment failures, route obstructions, or regulatory compliance issues.
Develop contingency plans to address potential risks and ensure the continuity of special services operations.

Collaboration with Internal Teams:

Work closely with dispatchers, drivers, and operations staff to ensure seamless execution of special services.
Collaborate with the compliance and safety officers to align special services operations with company-wide policies and regulatory requirements.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of all special services shipments, including detailed logs of hazardous materials transport, oversized load permits, and time-critical deliveries.
Prepare reports on the performance of special services operations, including metrics on delivery times, customer satisfaction, and compliance.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in logistics, transportation, or a related field; relevant certifications in hazardous materials handling or oversized load management are a plus.
Previous experience in a logistics or transportation role, particularly in managing specialized shipments.
Strong understanding of DOT regulations, hazardous materials handling, and other relevant industry standards.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to addressing challenges and finding solutions.
Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in an office environment with occasional fieldwork to oversee special services operations.
Willingness to travel as needed to coordinate and supervise special services shipments.
